Typing Test

Measure your typing speed and accuracy in English or Korean.

How to use

Choose English or Korean, then pick a mode. Time mode runs for 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, and word mode ends after 25, 50 or 100 words. English tests can also include punctuation and numbers.

Click the text, or tap it on a phone to open the keyboard, and start typing. The timer starts on your first keystroke. Press space to move to the next word. Backspace fixes the current word, and on an empty word it takes you back to the previous word if that word has a mistake.

Press Tab or the Restart button for a new set of words. When a test ends you see your speed, raw speed, accuracy, consistency and a chart of your speed over time.

Your settings and personal bests are saved in this browser for your next visit. What you type is never sent to a server.

FAQ

How is WPM calculated?

Every five correctly typed characters count as one word, including the space after each correct word, and the total is divided by the minutes of the test. Characters left wrong do not count. Raw WPM uses every character you typed, mistakes included, so the gap between the two shows what your errors cost.

How is accuracy calculated?

Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that matched the text at the moment you typed them. A mistake you fix with backspace no longer lowers your WPM, but it still lowers accuracy because the wrong key was pressed.

What is a good typing speed?

There is no single standard, because speed depends on the keyboard, the language and how familiar the words are. A more useful goal is your own trend: repeat the same mode a few times a week and check whether your speed rises while your accuracy stays high.

How does the Korean mode count keystrokes?

Korean mode shows keystrokes per minute, the usual measure for Korean typing. Each syllable is split into the keys pressed on the standard two-set (dubeolsik) layout, so 한글 counts as 6. Compound vowels such as ㅘ and double final consonants such as ㄺ take two keys, and letters typed with Shift such as ㄲ, ㅆ, ㅒ and ㅖ count the Shift key too, so 읽었다 counts as 10. Only correctly typed characters count toward the result.

What does consistency mean?

Consistency shows how steady your pace was. The test records how many keys you pressed in each second and compares the variation with your average. Even typing scores close to 100%, while bursts followed by pauses lower it.
